The Ampere Deluxe 700C is a full-size step-through electric bike for riders around 5ft 4 to 6ft. It combines the easy access of a low frame with larger, faster-rolling 700C wheels, a suspension fork and hydraulic disc brakes, making it a comfortable, practical choice for commuting and longer leisure rides.

A step-through frame is not just for smaller riders. Being able to step on and off without swinging a leg over a crossbar makes stop-start city riding easier, suits anyone with stiff hips or knees, and works in everyday clothes. The Deluxe 700C gives you that on an 18-inch frame with big 700C wheels, which hold their speed well and roll smoothly over rough road surfaces. The upright position keeps your head up and your view of traffic clear.

The drive is a 250W, 36V brushless rear hub motor with up to 65Nm of torque, enough to take the effort out of Bristol's hills and to keep a steady pace on longer flat stretches like the Bristol and Bath Railway Path. The 14Ah lithium-ion battery is integrated into the frame for a clean look and removes for charging, taking around six hours from empty on the 2A smart charger. Ampere quotes up to 55 miles of range; real-world range depends on assist level, terrain and load, and we can give you an honest idea for your own commute.

Shimano supplies the 7-speed drivetrain, with a rapid-fire shifter and a 14-34T freewheel for an easy climbing gear, and the Shimano MT-200 hydraulic disc brakes with 180mm rotors give strong, predictable stopping in all weathers. Up front, a SR Suntour NEX suspension fork with lockout smooths out potholes and broken tarmac and can be locked for efficient riding on smooth roads. The 700 x 45C puncture-resistant tyres are a good balance of speed and cushioning, and comfortable on gravel paths such as the Festival Way from Long Ashton towards Backwell.

Everything you need for daily riding is already fitted. A large central colour display shows speed, assist mode, distance and battery level, with a USB port for charging your phone. The integrated 100 lux front light and rear light with built-in turn indicators help you be seen and signal clearly in traffic. There is an alloy pannier rack, full metal mudguards, an alloy kickstand, a comfort saddle and Velo all-weather grips, plus a 4mph walk-assist mode for pushing the bike. At around 22kg it is reasonably light for a fully equipped e-bike. This model is finished in Stone Blue.
