The Ampere Deluxe 26 is a compact, easy-going step-through electric bike for smaller riders, roughly 4ft 11 to 5ft 4. It pairs classic low-frame styling with a modern integrated battery, hydraulic disc brakes and a full set of everyday kit, which is exactly why the Deluxe has become one of Ampere's bestselling bikes.
Plenty of e-bikes are simply too big for shorter riders, with tall frames and 700C wheels that make stopping and starting awkward. The Deluxe 26 fixes that with a 16-inch step-through frame and 26-inch wheels, so you can put a foot down confidently at the lights and step on and off without lifting a leg over a crossbar. The riding position is upright and relaxed, which keeps your head up in traffic and makes longer rides comfortable.
Power comes from a 250W, 36V brushless motor with up to 65Nm of torque, plenty to flatten Bristol's short, sharp climbs and to keep you moving into a headwind along the Portway. The 14Ah lithium-ion battery sits neatly inside the frame and can be removed for charging, taking around six hours from empty on the 2A smart charger. Ampere quotes up to 55 miles of range; how far you actually go depends on the assist level, the terrain and the load you carry, and we are happy to talk through what to expect on your own routes.
The components are sensible, proven choices. Shimano provides the 7-speed rapid-fire shifter, Altus rear mech and a wide 14-34T MegaRange freewheel, giving an easy low gear for hills. Braking is by Shimano MT-200 hydraulic discs with 180mm rotors front and rear, so the bike stops with a light touch even in the rain. The 26 x 1.95 puncture-resistant tyres are wide enough to feel stable on gravel paths such as the Festival Way from Long Ashton, and the rigid alloy fork keeps the weight down to around 21kg, light for an e-bike of this type.
It is set up for daily use straight away. A large central colour display shows speed, assist mode, trip distance and battery level, with a USB port for topping up your phone. There is a 100 lux integrated front light and a rear light with built-in turn indicators, a genuinely useful safety feature in city traffic. An alloy pannier rack, full metal mudguards, an alloy kickstand, a comfort saddle, Velo all-weather grips and an adjustable Zoom stem round it off, and a 4mph walk-assist mode helps when you are pushing the bike up a ramp. This model is finished in Light Blue.
Ampere is a UK e-bike brand with a strong reputation for value and customer support. Every Deluxe carries a 2-year warranty on the battery, motor and display as well as the core mechanical components, and buying from a local bike shop adds hands-on back-up: we fit the bike to you, and our workshop can handle servicing, brake adjustments and wear parts for years to come.
Fit matters more than anything on a smaller e-bike, so come and sit on one. Visit Bristol Bikesmiths in Southville on Myrtle Street or in Long Ashton on Lovelinch Gardens for a test ride and a chat about sizing and battery life. If you are torn between this and a mid-drive, we also stock the Ampere Deluxe Pro 26, and taller riders should take a look at the Deluxe 700C.
Every Ampere we sell is built, checked and ridden by one of our mechanics before it goes anywhere. Collect it free from either shop, fully built and ready to ride, or let us hand deliver it to your door in Bristol. We also deliver across the UK mainland, free on this bike, boxed after the workshop build with just the handlebars, front wheel and pedals to fit. Ask us about cycle to work schemes too, which can bring the cost of an e-bike down considerably.
