Meet Timo, and the Long Ashton shop
Dan and Timo opened the Long Ashton doors in 2021, turning an empty shell of a unit on Lovelinch Gardens into one of the best-stocked, most welcoming independent bike shops in North Somerset. What started with a handful of products and a lot of ambition is now a proper cycling destination - a shop where people come in for a tube and end up browsing for half an hour, discovering something they didn't know they needed.
Timo is the store lead - a passionate local road club organiser, Zwift enthusiast and legendary mechanic. Between Dan and Timo, they bring years of experience and the kind of honest, unhurried advice you won't find in a chain store. The shop is small by design. That means everything in it has been chosen because it's actually good - not because a buying department put it on a spreadsheet. If Dan or Timo stocks it, it's because they'd buy it themselves.
We're on Lovelinch Gardens, right on the edge of Long Ashton village - easy to reach from Nailsea, Backwell, Failand, Flax Bourton and south Bristol. Riders come to us from across North Somerset and beyond, including Portishead, Clevedon, Bedminster and Southville.

Bikes for every kind of ride
The shop floor carries a hand-picked selection of bikes for adults - commuters, weekend riders, gravel adventurers and e-bike converts. Because the shop is small, every bike on the floor has earned its place. The range includes:
Not sure what kind of bike you need? That's exactly the conversation we love having. Come in, tell us how you want to use it, and we'll point you in the right direction - even if the right direction turns out to be something we don't stock.
Kids' bikes & fitting - getting it right from the start
Choosing a child's first bike - or their next one - can feel overwhelming. The right fit makes the difference between a kid who loves cycling and one who gives up after a week. At Long Ashton, we take the guesswork out of it.
Dan and Timo will properly size your child on the right bike, looking at inseam length, reach, and how the bike actually feels for them to ride. No rushing, no pushing you towards the most expensive option - just a proper fit and an honest recommendation.
We stock some of the best children's bike brands in the world - brands that prioritise lightweight frames, quality components and correct geometry for growing riders:
No appointment needed for a browse - but if you want dedicated fitting time, dropping us a call first means we can make sure Dan or Timo are free to give you their full attention. Visit our kids' bikes page for our full size guide.
Helmets, parts & accessories
A well-chosen helmet is non-negotiable, and we stock a solid range for adults and kids. For children especially, we'll help get the fit right before you leave - a helmet that doesn't fit properly isn't doing its job.
Beyond helmets, the shop carries a thoughtfully curated range of parts, accessories and consumables: tubes, cables, lights, locks, bar tape, lubricants and the everyday essentials - plus a few things you'll be glad you discovered.
Long Ashton - a great place to ride
Long Ashton sits at the edge of some of the best cycling in the region. The Nailsea and Backwell trails, the National Cycle Network routes into Bristol, the quiet lanes through Flax Bourton and Failand, the climbs up towards the Mendips - there's something here for every kind of rider. Whether you're commuting into the city, exploring with the family at the weekend, or after a proper challenge on the road or gravel, the shop is perfectly placed to help you make the most of it.
Why choose an independent bike shop?
Honest advice, not targets
When Dan or Timo recommends something, it's because it's right for you - not because it's on promotion or hitting a sales target.
Hand-picked range
Every bike and product on our floor has been chosen because it's genuinely good. No filler, no range-filling brands we don't believe in.
Real expertise
We'll spend twenty minutes finding the right kids' helmet. We'll explain the honest difference between a £400 and a £2,000 bike. We'll tell you if a service isn't worth doing yet.
Part of the community
Timo runs local road club rides and is embedded in the cycling community here. We're not a shop that opens and closes - we're part of local cycling life in North Somerset.
