Kona mountain, gravel and e-bikes at Bikesmiths Bristol
Kona bikes in Bristol

Kona is one of those brands riders fall for. Born on the trails and roads of the Pacific Northwest, Kona has spent decades building fun, tough, no-nonsense bikes that just want to be ridden, whether that is a proper trail mountain bike, a go-anywhere gravel machine, a comfy commuter or an e-bike to flatten the hills. At Bikesmiths we carry a big slice of the Kona range across our two Bristol shops in Long Ashton and Southville, so you can see them in person, get set up properly, and take a test ride.

From the legendary Process trail bikes and the steel Unit to the Rove gravel bikes and the Dew town bikes, there is a Kona for pretty much every kind of riding. Below is what we currently stock, and honest advice from us to help you pick.

Why riders love Kona

Kona has never chased fashion. It builds bikes that work, ride well and last, with a bit of attitude thrown in. That is why you see so many of them out on the trails and around town.

Built for real riding

Tough frames, sorted geometry and sensible spec. Kona bikes are made to be ridden hard and often, from muddy Mendip trails to the daily commute.

A bike for every rider

Mountain, gravel, urban, electric and kids. Whatever kind of riding you are into, there is a Kona that fits, and we stock across the whole range.

Try before you buy

A bike this capable deserves a proper test. Come into Long Ashton or Southville, we will get you on the right size, set it up and send you out for a ride.

Which Kona is right for you?

Kona covers a lot of ground, so start with the riding you actually do. Here is the quick version, and we are always happy to talk it through in the shop:

  • Trails and off-road: a hardtail like the Fire Mountain, Lava Dome or Honzo to start, or a full-suspension Process or Hei Hei for rougher, faster riding.
  • Gravel and adventure: the Rove for all-road and gravel, the Sutra or Unit X for loaded touring and bikepacking.
  • Getting around town: the Dew and Coco are comfortable, practical bikes for commuting and everyday riding.
  • With a bit of help: the electric Dew-E, Coco HD and eCoco take the effort out of hills, headwinds and longer commutes.
  • For the kids: the Hula and Makena for little ones, or the Honzo 20 and 24 for young trail riders.

Not sure which suits you? Come into either shop, tell us where and how you like to ride, and we will get you on the right bike in the right size, with a test ride to be sure.

Kona bikes FAQ

Are Kona bikes any good?

Very. Kona has a long history of building tough, well-sorted bikes that ride brilliantly and last, especially its mountain and adventure bikes. They have a loyal following for good reason, and they are equally at home on the trail or the commute.

What is Kona best known for?

Mountain bikes and adventure bikes above all. The Process trail bikes, the steel Unit and the Honzo hardtails are icons, and the Sutra and Rove are firm favourites with tourers and gravel riders. That said, Kona also makes excellent town and electric bikes.

Which Kona mountain bike is best for a beginner?

A hardtail is usually the best place to start. The Fire Mountain and Lava Dome give you a capable, well-specced trail bike without spending a fortune, and they are easy to look after as you learn. Pop in and we will match one to your riding and budget.

Do Kona make gravel bikes and e-bikes?

Yes to both. The Rove, Sutra, Unit X and Ouroboros cover gravel and adventure riding, and the Dew-E, Coco HD and eCoco are practical electric bikes for commuting and getting around town with a helping hand.

Where can I buy Kona bikes in Bristol?
